A mock-up of the fortress in Biskupin.
Biskupin is an archaeological site in the Gniezno Lake District in the village of Biskupin in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province. The discovery of the settlement was one of the most important events in the history of Polish and European archaeology.
The bronze model was made for the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin. The author of the model was the sculptor Roman Kosmala. The model was prepared with extreme accuracy and laboriousness.
Bronze casting made on the basis of a design of a model depicting a reconstruction of a settlement of the people of the Lusatian culture from the first phase of its existence (thirteen rows of huts, a circular street, transverse streets, a gate with a platform, a rampart, a breakwater), measuring about 120 × 80 cm.
