The bust of Captain Witold Pilecki

On Sunday, September 13, 2020, we participated in the unveiling of the bust of Captain Witold Pilecki in Śrem.
The bust was designed by Rafał Nowak, a valued sculptor from Poznań.
The casting of the sculpture, plaque and the execution of the plinth is our work.
Witold Pilecki was born on May 13, 1901 in Ołońc, Russia. He came from a noble family with independence traditions. His grandfather Józef Pilecki was exiled to Siberia for taking part in the January Uprising. Witold Pilecki was a soldier of the Home Army, a prisoner and an organizer of the resistance movement in the KL Auschwitz concentration camp. It was thanks to him that the Holocaust Reports were created and the whole world learned the truth that it could not believe.
Captain was sentenced to death by the authorities of the Polish People’s Republic. Only in 1990 was the death sentence overturned.
Posthumously awarded the Order of the White Eagle in 2006.
