Fountain of Mars in Oldtown Square Poznań

Fountain of Mars – one of the four fountains in the Oldtown in Poznań is situated on the north-west side of the square. It was unveiled in 2005. The idea of the originators was to make the Poznań market look like in the old days. Already in the 17th century, one of the four fountains stood here, where until the end of the 19th century it supplied the inhabitants of Poznań with water.
The author of the fountain sculpture is Rafał Nowak. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, receiving a diploma with honors in the sculpture department of prof. J. Kopczyński. The artist has been cooperating with us for many years. We have also carried out many of his other projects in bronze. Some of them are worth mentioning, such as, the monument to Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Poznań, Irena Kwiatkowska’s Bench in Ustka, and the Little Prince and Rose’s Bench in Rewal. Rafał Nowak is also the author of the four figures of the first kings of Poland, the Royal Route in Gniezno.
